A - Verbs Transitives in English but

Intransitive in Hindi

1. वह घर देर से पहुँचा।                                                              He reached home late

2. उसने धनी व्यक्ति की लड़की से विवाह किया।                             He married the daughter of a rich man

3. दोनों भाई एक-दूसरे से मिलते-जुलते है।                                      Both the brother resemble each other

4. मैं जूठे से घृणा करता हूँ और कभी उस पर विश्वास                        I hate a liar and never trust him
   नहीं करता।                                                          
5. उसने एक बड़ी फ़ौज के साथ देश पर आक्रमण कर                     He invaded the country with a big army
    दिया।                                                                         

B - Transitive Verbs used with and 

without Prepositions

1. मैं नित्य स्कूल में उपस्थित होता हूँ।                                              I attend the school daily

2. मैं अपनी पढ़ाई का नियमपुर्वक ध्यान रखता हूँ।                            I attend to my studies regularly

3. आओ, इस गीत को आरम्भ कर दें।                                             Let us begin this song

4. आओ, इस गीत से गाना आरम्भ करे।                                          Let us begin with this song

5. जरा जाकर पूछो कि क्या गाड़ी देर से आ रही है।                          Just go and inquire whether the train is     

                                                                                                 coming late

6. पुलिस इस मामले कि छानबीन कर रही है।                                 The police is inquiring into this matter

7. उसने काम को छुआ तक नहीं।                                                 He did not even touched the work

8. उसने इस समस्या की ओर केवल संकेत ही किया।                       He simply touched upon this problem

Points to Remember

1. Intransitive Verb  के साथ किसी न किसी  Preposition  का प्रयोग होता है परन्तु  Transitive Verb  के साथ  Preposition  नहीं लगाई जाती।

2. कई ऐसे  Verb  होते है जो हिन्दी में तो  Intransitive  होते है परन्तु अंग्रेजी में उनका प्रयोग  Transitive  में होता है। ऐसे  Transitive Verbs  के साथ  Preposition  का प्रयोग किया जाये तो अनुवाद अशुद्ध होगा (देखो वाक्य  न० A -1  से  5)।

           नीचे लिखे  Verbs  अंग्रेजी में  Transitive  रूप में ही प्रयुक्त होते है  -  Assit, ask, allow, admit, enter, invade, order, obey, fear, hate, marry, love, inform, trust, resemble, treat, resign, forgive, excuse, hinder, investigate, recommend, benefits etc.

3. यदि  Transitive Verbs  के साथ  Preposition  लगा दी जाये अर्थात उनको  Intransitive  की तरह प्रयोग किया जाये तो उनका अर्थ  बदल जाता है (देखो वाक्य   B - 2,4,6,8)।  निम्नलिखित  Verbs  को  Intransitive  की तरह प्रयोग किया जाता है :-

                         Attend, count, call, deal, eat, feel, guard, send, succeed, tell, taste, touch, etc.

4. कुछ  Verbs  ऐसे भी होते है, जो  Transitive  और  Intransitive  दोनों रूपों में प्रयुक्त होते है। उनके भी अर्थ में भेद रहता है, जैसे - 

           उसने दूध उबाल।                                  He boiled the milk

           दूध उबल रहा था।                                 The milk was boiling

           Fly, melt, eat, see  आदि इसी प्रकार के  Verbs  है।

Translate the following into English :

1. हमे अपने पड़ोसियों से प्रेम करना चाहिये।  2. हाथ से काम करने से घृणा मत करो।  3. उसने अपने पद से त्याग पत्र दे दिया है।  4. पिताजी ने मुझे अपने मित्र के यहाँ जाने की आज्ञा नहीं दी।  5. क्या आप मेरी नौकरी की सिफारिश करेंगे?  6. तुम्हारी शक्ल अपने पिता से बहुत मिलती-जुलती है।  7. देश की उन्नति के मार्ग में बाधा मत डालो।  8. जब तुम यहाँ आओ तो मुझे सूचित अवश्य करना।  9. कमेटी ने इस मामले की जाँच-पड़ताल कर ली है।  10. वह मुझे घर पर मिलने आया।
